Creggs RFC 24 Claremorris RFC 17

Creggs RFC hosted Claremorris RFC in a very competitive friendly last Saturday morning. With the cup coming in two weeks, this was a very useful workout for the lads. Creggs took the lead after 5 minutes with a try from Ethan Glennon, Claremorris responded with two tries to take a 10-5 lead and Creggs scored an equalising try just before half time through Lorcan Maher to leave the score level at half time. Claremorris scored a breakaway try after turning over the ball in their own 22” and converted to give them a 17-10 lead. Creggs then took control of the game and territory and Lorcan Maher scored his second try which Mark Purcell converted to level the scores. Creggs took the kick off and played the ball back into the opposition 22”. After winning the lineout and after three phases of play a Cross field Kick from Mark Purcell was gathered by Darren Gately which was converted by Mark Purcell to leave the final score 24-17. Up Front Luke Divilly, Louis McCaffrey, Jack Tucker and Andrew Naughton played very well in defence and carried well and out the Back Mark Dowd, Brandon Kilcommons, Callum Coughlan, Jack Crehan and Daragh Kiernan were very prominent.

Creggs U13’s play Ballinasloe RFC in their last friendly before the cup next Friday night at 7.30pm.

All 3 teams in action this weekend.
First up was U18s who played A training game Friday with Corrib. A very worthwhile exercise and many thanks to our hosts for making it such an enjoyable evening.
Saturday evening brought Creggs Rfc to Tuam where firstly u14s locked horns. Trys from Ailbhe Gannon,Juno Hayes,Doireann Clancy and Ceoladh Lydon were the topping on a fine team performance for this continually improving group. Strong performances too from Kyri Ruane,Louise Seoige,Sarah Smith and Heidi Watson.
Next up was the U16s. This was a cracker of a game where despite the best efforts of captain Hannah Clarke to drag her side into the game Creggs proved too strong on the day. Experienced players Beibhinn Gleeson,Keanah Irons and Charlotte O Grady continually offered themselves in both attack and defence but the powerful relentless ball carrying Creggs girls were deserving victors.

A great evenings Rugby tonight when Creggs Girls U14 and U16 travelled to play Tuam/Oughterard in Tuam in their first games of the season.

The U14's who had a lot of players playing their first ever game went down to a strong Tuam/Oughterard team but put in a great performance and then the U16"s Girls came out on top in a tough encounter against the same opposition.

Thanks to all that were available to travel tonight.
