The Weather at the weekend caused havoc with Youth and Mini fixtures with all youth games except the U14’s who played away Friday night being cancelled.

Creggs Mini’s blitz in Monivea was cancelled and next week Creggs Minis will train in Creggs at 11am on Saturday. Creggs Mini girls are due to have a blitz in Athlone next Saturday.

U14 League:

Monivea RFC 12 Creggs 5

Creggs U14’s lost their first league game of the year away to monivea last friday night under lights. Creggs too the lead when a kick ahead by Mark Purcell was grounded by Aaron Lyons after 7 minutes. The first Monivea score came with the last play of the first half when Creggs made a break up field but were turned over at the breakdown and Monivea ran in a try under the posts which they converted for a 7-5 half time lead. The second half both teams tried to run the ball but both defences were very well drilled and Creggs had a sustained period of pressure near the Monivea line in the last 5 minutes of the game and from a 5 metre penalty Jack Tucker was just held up Short and recycled the ball but Creggs knocked on the ball near the line and a long kick upfield resulted in a try for Monivea with the last play. Next week Creggs will play Ballinasloe RFC away in the league at 11am next Sunday.

Creggs U15’s game V Sligo was cancelled this weekend. Next weekend the U15’s have a free weekend.

All 3 teams in action this weekend.
First up was U18s who played A training game Friday with Corrib. A very worthwhile exercise and many thanks to our hosts for making it such an enjoyable evening.
Saturday evening brought Creggs Rfc to Tuam where firstly u14s locked horns. Trys from Ailbhe Gannon,Juno Hayes,Doireann Clancy and Ceoladh Lydon were the topping on a fine team performance for this continually improving group. Strong performances too from Kyri Ruane,Louise Seoige,Sarah Smith and Heidi Watson.
Next up was the U16s. This was a cracker of a game where despite the best efforts of captain Hannah Clarke to drag her side into the game Creggs proved too strong on the day. Experienced players Beibhinn Gleeson,Keanah Irons and Charlotte O Grady continually offered themselves in both attack and defence but the powerful relentless ball carrying Creggs girls were deserving victors.

A great evenings Rugby tonight when Creggs Girls U14 and U16 travelled to play Tuam/Oughterard in Tuam in their first games of the season.

The U14's who had a lot of players playing their first ever game went down to a strong Tuam/Oughterard team but put in a great performance and then the U16"s Girls came out on top in a tough encounter against the same opposition.

Thanks to all that were available to travel tonight.
