Cawley Cup, Round 1.
Tuam RFC 3, Creggs Rugby 7.
Creggs got the new season off to a winning start with a hard-earned away victory over Tuam on last Sunday afternoon.
The starting Creggs fifteen shattered the club’s previous record by a considerable distance with an average age under 21 years, which is a remarkable figure for a senior competitive fixture. This is a tribute to the club’s excellent youth development system and the senior team coaches for giving youth every chance. Let us hope that this continues and we produce top class players capable of making a seamless transition from underage to adult rugby.

The six players that made their senior competitive debuts last Sunday v Tuam were (L-R): Jack Tucker, Tom Farrell Mark Purcell, Aodha Hession, Mikey Dunne and Conor Rohan.
For this Cawley Cup round one game, six players made their senior competitive debuts, with Aodha Hession, Jack Tucker, Mark Purcell, Conor Rohan, Mikey Dunne and Tom Farrell all making significant contributions to this notable win against a strong and experienced Tuam outfit.
Tuam led 3 nil through a well struck Eoin Kelly penalty after 14 minutes but good defence by Creggs, with Conor Rohan leading the tackle stats, kept their scoring opportunities to a minmum thereafter.
Creggs got through for the match winning try in the 54th minute when Mark Purcell collected his own chip ahead to outpace the home defence for a wonderful solo score. Mark’s brother Shane then stepped up to drill the difficult conversion between the posts to give Creggs a four point cushion.

The Creggs First Team that defeated Tuam RFC away in Cawley Cup last Sunday.
However, Tuam remained a serious threat and the outcome of the contest remained in doubt for the remaining time, with both teams enjoying periods of dominance. However, Creggs deservedly held out for a vital win which gets the season off to a great start as Tuam are always very difficult to beat on their own patch.
Creggs continue the Cawley Cup campaign with a home game v Buccaneers next Sunday at 2.30pm in Creggs. Training continues for all adult players on Tuesday nights at 8pm and Friday nights at 8.15pm.
CREGGS RFC: Aidan Leech, Danny Arnold, Jack Tucker, Tom Farrell, Brian Donoghue, Eoghan Farrell, Conor Rohan, Brian Diffley (Capt.), Aodha Hession, Shane Purcell, Chris Duignan, Mark Purcell, James Brandon, Michael Dunne, Ronan Dowd, Sean Og Higgins, Tom Fleming, Pete Lohan, Mark Brandon, and Michael Holland.
Creggs Development Team v Carrick RFC in Curley Cup next Sunday

Support Creggs Rugby's 'For the Love
of the Club' fundraising Walk/Run
Connacht Rugby and Bank of Ireland are supporting Creggs Rugby Club with their 'For The Love of the Club' fundraising initiative this coming St Patrick’s Day, March 17th, which will last for one week until March 24th. Will you please join us?
For the Love of the Club is a virtual 5K or 10K fundraising walk or run where you can register to: www.myrunresults.com
The entry fee is €10 and it will go to Creggs RFC, once you’ve chosen Creggs Rugby Club when entering.
We welcome all to participate, from keen runners to casual walkers. It’s all about getting reconnected and active again and whether you’re at home in Roscommon, Castlerea, Strokestown, Lanesborough, Lecarrow, Ballygar, Newbridge, Glenamaddy, Williamstown or in your home from home in Melbourne, Boston, Toronto or anywhere in the World, you can be part of your club, Creggs RFC in these challenging times. You may have a niece or nephew, a grandchild, a neighbour, a work colleague, or a casual acquaintance involved with the Club. Why not join this great fundraising initiative, and walk or run 5/10 km to support them.
This fundraiser will provide a much needed financial boost to Creggs Rugby Club in the current climate of restrictions. It will help greatly to maintain the facilities - both those in use such as the Community Walkway and the training and playing pitches etc. for when rugby returns for all our boys and girls.
The pandemic period has made it increasingly difficult for the Club to access most funding streams and through this initiative you can contribute to the Club, while getting some healthy exercise in the process.
In addition to your support, Bank of Ireland, Connacht Rugby’s community partner, will provide €5,000 worth of Rhino Rugby equipment to the club that goes the extra mile. Will you please help us to go that extra mile?
Please sign up for the Love of The Club virtual run/walk by clicking on the following link: www.myrunresults.com/events/for_the_love_of_the_club/4052/details
Connacht Rugby and Creggs Rugby Club asks all participants to adhere to complete their walk or run within the current government guidelines and their mandated 5K zone in Ireland (or whatever restrictions apply where you now reside), and not to gather in large groups in public areas and instead partake individually.
A 70 cent administration charge applies to all entrants’ €10 entry fees.
ENJOY YOUR EXERCISE AND THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING CREGGS RUGBY CLUB. ... See MoreSee Less
