Creggs busy weekend started with Mini Rugby training on Saturday morning last. Again great numbers turned up. The club is getting into near full season mode with 6 underage games at the weekend in both girls and boys rugby.
Boys 16s
Creggs RFC played Ballina Rugby Union Club away on Saturday in their first league game of the season. Creggs were leading at halftime time 12 -8. The second half was a more lively affair with both sides playing better rugby. Creggs finished up narrowly beaten at the end 20 – 17. Well done all involved. ( see photo of scrum)
Girls U.16
Creggs Girls U.16s played at home to Galway Corinthians R.F.C. in the league.
Creggs were behind 14-12 at half time, following 2 tries from Grace O Shaughnessy and Ciara Downey, The visitors were kept scoreless in the second half and Creggs got further tries from Grace O Shaughnessy (2) and Ellen Jordan. Creggs finished the game winners on the scoreline 29 – 14.
Well done girls and thanks to Galway Corinthians R.F.C. for the very sporting game.
U.13 Boys
Sunday brought back the memories of rugby being played in the winter season. In cold. heavy rain the U 13 league game was played at home with Creggs v Buccaneers RFC. The two evenly matched teams played out a great 24 all draw. Creggs led 17 points to 10 at half time but Buccaneers finished stronger. A great performance by both sides. ( see team photo)
Girls U.18
U18 Creggs maroon team travelled away to Corrib RFC today in awful weather in Headford. This was a league match. A well earned win came with tries from Shauna Mcdermott, Katie O Connor, Jemima Adams Verling, Megan Donoghue and Maryanne Jordan. Well done girls. ( see team photo)
Boys U.15
Creggs U.15 team travelled to Galwegians RFC for a participation game with a 12pm kick off. This game was played in real west of Ireland rugby winter conditions of rain and wind. The Creggs team dug out a win by 2 points 19 points to 17. Creggs scorers were a tries by Conor Timon and Cian Trimble (2) who also converted two.
Girls U.14
Creggs U.14 girls travelled to Sligo where the sea air and weather played its toll on the game. Having played well, Creggs ended losing 29-12. Emily Kelly scored our two tries in very tough conditions. Creggs fought hard till the end and finished strongly with the last score of the game. Well done to all.
