Creggs Firsts team took on Westport RFC in a league match on the 4g pitch. Conditions were perfect for players if a bit cold for spectators. Creggs started well with an early try by Aidan Leech converted from almost the touchline by Shane Purcell. After giving away a kickable penalty Brian Diffley finished off a forwards break scoring left of the posts converted again by Shane Purcell. Leading 14 -3 it seemed Creggs would pull away but Wesport replied with their own 7 pointer with Creggs having missed some tackles. Another penalty from Westport left it 14-13 at half time to Creggs. In the 2nd half Creggs had the wind behind them and kicked well into the opposition 22.. This resulted in a Kevin Gavin try in the right corner. Creggs leading by 19-13 kicked another great penalty pushing them 9 ahead. With 10 minutes remaining Eoghan Coyle collected a kick ahead and ran in under the post for another 7 with Shane Purcell converting. This was followed by a last ditch try by Westport with the final score 29 - 19. Creggs suffered a number of injuries and had to be subbed out but the replacements were excellent resulting in a solid win. CONGRATS ... See MoreSee Less

Creggs RFC under 18.5s played Ballinasloe RFC on the 4g pitch at 5pm on Saturday in a league match. This was the fourth game in a row om the 4G having already hosted u.14s, boys and girls and u.18 girls too. Ballinasloe were short of props so the game was played with uncontested scrums which slightly spoiled the great rugby that was played. Ballinasloe started quickly and were 14 nil ahead within 10 minutes. Creggs had a number of injuries but got back into the game scoring 3 tries and one conversion by half time leading 17 -14. Again more injuries meant Creggs were left with just 15 on the pitch and no subs. In a high scoring game Ballinasloe went ahead again with another try and conversion leading 21-17 Creggs took control and after a great move scored a try and conversion taking the lead again. 24-21. From the kick off Creggs loss on concentration left Ballinasloe catch the ball and run unhindered under the post going back to 28-24 behind. Creggs rallied again and scored a 5th try and conversion pushing ahead again by 31 to 28. Creggs were now tiring as no subs were available to them and let Ballinasloe in for another try and conversion pushing them ahead 35 -31. Creggs threw everything at them in last 5 minutes and almost scored being held up twice on the try line. In last minute Ballinasloe scored again taking another 7 points finishing up winners 42-31. This was an exciting game and close up to the last minute. More commitment is required by members of the panel if a run at the cup is envisaged. Scorers for Creggs were Mark Kilcommons, Senan Lambe, Darren Gately, Patrick Charles and Conor Betts with Conversions by Darren Gately and Ryan Conlon. ... See MoreSee Less
