Creggs 2nds 10 Oughterard 16

Oughterard arrived to The Green for Saturday evening’s J2 league game as strong contenders for the League title but a youthful Creggs team put in a spirited and skilled display before losing to the West Galway men in a lively contest, played in ideal conditions.

Oughterard availed of slack tackling to carve defence to shreds for an early converted try before Creggs gradually got to the tempo of the game. With Eoghan Cahill impressing with some strong carries alongside captain Enda Tully, Creggs began to dominate up front ,with Kevin Raftery ,Conor Gore at fullback and Enda Garvey also catching the eye with sterling displays.

However, Oughterard went further ahead with a well worked try in the 35th minute but Creggs rallied with 2 fine tries by impressive centre Tommy Devine to bring the score to 16 -10 midway through the 2nd half.

Creggs did get a few half chances in the closing stages but Oughterard, with Castlerea native and former Creggs player Aidan O’Flynn making a successful return to his old club, used their power and experience to close out the game for a deserved but hard earned victory.

Creggs 2nds travel to Galway to play NUIG next Sunday in Dangan and can take a lot of positives from this battling display against the current table toppers. Training continues on Tuesday and Friday night at 8pm ,new players always welcome.
