Connacht play Munster in Creggs this Saturday

111

Creggs Rugby Club hosts the Junior Interprovincial decider match in Creggs this Saturday afternoon between Connacht and Munster on the new 4G pitch.

The new terrace facility will be used in full for the first time and with a very favourable weather forecast for the weekend, they’re should be a great crowd and atmosphere in Creggs for the game, which kicks off at 2.30pm.

The fact that there are seven Creggs men (Aidan Leech, Maurice Buckley, Brian Donohue, Brian Diffley, James Brandon, Andrew Callaghan and Shane Dowd) in the squad and the forwards coach is the Creggs head coach Pat Cunningham, adds a great local interest to the occasion.

After a lacklustre performance when going down to Ulster two weeks ago and not picking up any points against the Northerners, Connacht travelled to Wicklow last Saturday and came away with a great bonus point 33-31 win over Leinster. Munster also defeated Ulster, after going down previously to Leinster. It’s now wide-open with no one willing to call which of all four provinces will win the Inter-Provential title on Saturday.

We expect that the two teams will enjoy playing on the latest 4G pitch, the first in the province. It has proved very popular with all Creggs teams and the visiting sides that have played here in recent months.

It is always a pleasure to host Munster in Creggs, as we most recently did in May 2015. Creggs had just one squad member, David Brandon in the Connacht squad on that occasion, and the higher participation of Creggs men in the green indicates the upward trajectory that the club is currently on. Saturday’s game will be a tough and competitive affair, one that we hope will end in a Connacht win, We also hope that the occasion will foster further friendship and good sportsmanship between teams from the two provinces.

Congratulations to all the players from Creggs involved in the Connacht squad. They’re looking forward to the big game and we hope they will enjoy the occasion. Commiserations to James Brandon, who gave a man-of-the-match performance in the away win over Leinster last weekend. James isn’t available for Saturday due to a college exam the same afternoon. The six other Creggs players are in the match-day squad for Saturday.

Creggs hope to see many supporters, sponsors, players of all ages, members, and the many friends of the village club in Creggs on Saturday to enjoy a great occasion and the new facilities.
