Connacht U18 League Division I

Creggs 17 Ballinasloe 28

2 late tries saw Ballinasloe emerge victorious in a very hard fought and exciting Under 18 game played in Creggs last Friday evening. Conditions were perfect underfoot and Creggs opened brightly but Ballinasloe got on the scoreboard first with a converted try by Connacht U18 player Simon Keller. Creggs however, replied after good forward drives by Edward Clinton, Tom Oates and Simon Spain led to a penalty by Shane Dowd. Then a Ballinasloe intercept try left them leading close to half time. However, a great break by outhalf Shane Dowd leaving a number of would be Ballinasloe tackles in his wake saw him score under the posts for a try he later converted. Half-time Ballinasloe 14 Creggs 10. Creggs rallied in the second half with great tackling by Conor McNeill, Kevin Gavin and Conor Gore led to the ball being worked through the hands of Michael Farrell and John Brennan to Shane Dowd and he cut through the Ballinasloe defence to score close to the posts for a great try that he converted. This left Creggs leading by three points with ten minutes to go. However Ballinasloe responded and good passing by their backs saw out half Donnacha Reilly score under the posts to secure victory for the away side. Creggs can be pleased with their performance and have another game next weekend. Training takes place on Friday night at 7.30pm. It is important everyone turns out.
