Creggs RFC took a big step towards qualifying for the semi-final of the Connacht Under-16 League after a victory over league leaders Ballinasloe last Saturday.

Played in front of a big crowd on the day of the official pitch opening in Creggs, the home team put in a very efficient performance. It was a good mix of strong carrying by their forwards with their running and kicking game of their backs, and they got three tries in the first half through Aodhan Looby, Miguel Arthur and Ryan Conlon with two conversions from DJ Hession to 1 try for Ballinasloe for a half time 19-7 lead.

Upfront Ciaran Purcell, Noah Fallon, Eoin Kelly and Lee Kilcoyne were excellent throughout the game while the backs of Edimar Fimho, Conor Betts and Senna Lambe were dangerous throughout. Further tries in the second half from Ryan Conlon, Cormac Dolan and Ben Johnson with another Hession conversion finished the scoring for Creggs

Well done to our u16’s girls who put in a great performance losing out in the league semi final today in Claremorris.

They started poorly and gave the opposition a 2 try start before putting in a super performance and were 10-7 down with 7 minutes left and putting the pressure on.

Claremorris got in for two late tries to put a gloss on the score.

Well done girls great performance
