Creggs 2nds

17

Creggs 2nds completed their League campaign with a home game against Corinthians on Sunday.
The first half was evenly contested, and ended up level at 5 points all, with Neville Walker barging over for a Creggs try shortly before halftime.

However, that was as good as it got for Creggs,as the stronger and more experienced Corinthians side pulled away with some fine tries to run out comfortable winners.

Creggs were not helped by injuries to key players, with both Dylan Keaveney and Neville Walker forced off in the early stages of the secondhalf.

Creggs performed reasonably well in the League, with wins over Oughterard and NUIG,and now must regroup for the first round of the ArdnaCregg Cup,which is due to take place on April 3rd.

Creggs Firsts team took on Westport RFC in a league match on the 4g pitch. Conditions were perfect for players if a bit cold for spectators. Creggs started well with an early try by Aidan Leech converted from almost the touchline by Shane Purcell. After giving away a kickable penalty Brian Diffley finished off a forwards break scoring left of the posts converted again by Shane Purcell. Leading 14 -3 it seemed Creggs would pull away but Wesport replied with their own 7 pointer with Creggs having missed some tackles. Another penalty from Westport left it 14-13 at half time to Creggs. In the 2nd half Creggs had the wind behind them and kicked well into the opposition 22.. This resulted in a Kevin Gavin try in the right corner. Creggs leading by 19-13 kicked another great penalty pushing them 9 ahead. With 10 minutes remaining Eoghan Coyle collected a kick ahead and ran in under the post for another 7 with Shane Purcell converting. This was followed by a last ditch try by Westport with the final score 29 - 19. Creggs suffered a number of injuries and had to be subbed out but the replacements were excellent resulting in a solid win. CONGRATS ... See MoreSee Less
