Buccaneers 5 Creggs 15

Creggs guaranteed a home semi final in the U15 league after a hard fought 15-5 win over Buccaneers in Athlone last Sunday morning. Played on a wet and windy day this was a game that was always going to be won up front and the Creggs forwards certainly didn’t disappoint and defended very well in the first half when required.

Buccaneers played with the strong first half and dominated territory during this period, however Creggs defended very well with David O Gorman, Brian Maloney, Danny Arnold , Eoghan Coyle and Aaron Glennon doing well around the fringes and Ronan Dowd and Cian Gately making important tackles out wide. Most of the play was around the Creggs 22″ and it was only with the last play of the first half that Buccaneers finally broke down the spirited defence to take a 5-0 lead.

In the second half Creggs had the better of territory. Creggs now began to pick and drive well also and after 10 minutes Danny Arnold, Make a break and released Melvin Conteh to touch down to level the scores 5-5. Straight from the kick off Shane Purcell gathered and used the wind to perfection to put Buccaneers back into their own 22″. From the resultant lineout James Brandon read the pass from the scrumhalf and intercepted to touch down to give Creggs a 10-5 lead.

Creggs continued to press and Adam Finnerty and Jason Hoare did well on their introduction and Padraig Gaffey and Reece Gilligan were doing well chasing kicks and putting their opponents under pressure. When a kick through from Shane Purcell was fumbled on the line, James Brandon Picked from the resultant scrum and touched down in the corner for a 15-5 lead to Creggs,

Creggs will now play the Connacht League Semi Final on Sunday the 19th in Creggs.
