Creggs Under-14 Boys Score Big Quarter Final Win

Creggs RFC 42, Tuam RFC 14.

Creggs under 14 boys played Tuam in Creggs in the Connacht Plate Quarter-Final last Saturday. It was an ideal day for running rugby and Creggs got off to a very good start with winger Dan Kelly opening the scoring under the posts and Kaylum Curran converted.

It was not long before Cian Trimble followed suit with his try close to the posts which was slotted over the bar to extend the lead to 14-0.

The scene was set at this stage that quick ball out to the backs was rewarded by making ground steadily. Kaylum Curran took on his opposite number and broke the line to score the third try. He duly added the conversation to stretch the lead.

Next it was an opportunity for the forwards to impress and after some sustained pressure up front, the captain on the day, Robert Bligh to drove over.

This try was also converted to bring the lead 28 points to 0. In the closing minute of the first half Cian Trimble got over for his second try and Kaylum Curran also slotted this one to go on to half time 35 points to 0.

The team coaches made wholesale changes in the second half to give as many subs as possible a run. Tuam took advantage of the opportunity and were rewarded with two tries and conversions to close the gap to 35 points to 14.

It was at this stage that the fresh legs of the Creggs boys started to find their way and get up to the pace of the game. It was the forwards again that struck. with the number 8, Ruari Webb getting over. Kaylum kept his 100 per cent record on the day. The score now 42 points to 14.

This impressive group of players now go on to play Westport in the Semi-Final. This game is scheduled for next weekend.
