Creggs RFC 38, Ballinalsoe RFC 17.
Creggs Girls Under-16 team advanced to the semi final of the Connacht Under-16 Cup after a tough encounter with Ballinasloe in Creggs on Monday night.
Having played in the league earlier this season and only come out on top with a late score and the fact the two teams were to meet in the cancelled U14 cup final due to covid in 2020, there was never going to be much between these sides.
The Creggs girls really fronted up physically in the first half as Ballinasloe brought their hard carrying game and some of the defending from Creggs with Mikayla Gilooly, Gemima Adams Verling, Shauna McDermott, Grace Mannion and Leah Heavy always prominent put Creggs on the front foot from the start. Creggs try scorers on the evening were Sarah Purcell (4), Siofra Hession and Shauna Walsh with Siofra Hession also converting 4 of the tries.
Up front some great carries from Darcey Farnon, Julie Ann Fahy, Isabelle Quinn, helped create ground and in the second half when under pressure Grace Killian, Stacey Corbally, Beibhinn Maher and Elizabeth Gorys kept the Creggs line intact.
On the wings Rachel Kilcoyne, Katie O Connor and Ellen Jordan did well in attack and defence and kicked smartly when required and Ciara Corrigan did well on her debut when introduced.
Ballinasloe kept to their task and did get in for 3 tries of their own also, one converted.
