Sligo RFC 5, Creggs RFC 7
Although missing a few regulars and having to play some players out of position, Creggs Under-18.5’s travelled to Sligo last Sunday and came away with a 7-5 win in their Connacht League game.
Creggs had the better of the territory in the first half and excellent work up front by Ben Johnson, Patrick Charles and Sean Kelly had put Creggs near the line on a number of occasions and only for a mixture of a couple of poor decisions and some errors, Creggs should have scored.
However, it remained 0-0 at half time as both defences won out, with up-front Eoin Kelly. Edimar Filho and Aidan Hoare outsanding for Creggs and out wide Conor Betts and Ryan Conlon and Cormac Dolan always very prominent in defence.
The second half started very well for Creggs when Ciaran Purcell made a great break up the wing and when tackled off-loaded to Lee Kilcoyne who scored with DJ Hession converting for a 7-0 lead for Creggs.
The lead was short lived as a missed tackle in midfield allowed Sligo in for a try but the conversion was missed and Creggs lead was now 7-5.
The rest of the game was again dominated by the respective defences, with both teams missing penalty opportunities to take control of the game. For Creggs, Darren Gately, Mark Kilcommons and Senan Lambe all made crucial tackles during the final quarter.
