Creggs v Longford served up entertaining rugby

Creggs Development 29, Longford RFC 2nd XV 33

Creggs Development Team and Longford 2nd XV served up some highly entertaining rugby in a friendly fixture on last Friday night, on the 4G pitch in Creggs.

Creggs were missing a number of regular members of the Development squad, but this provided an opportunity for much needed game time for other players to press their claims for selection.

All in all, it proved a very worthwhile exercise, with both teams committed to attacking rugby which yielded 8 tries over the course of a closely contested game which flowed from end to end.

Prop-forward Matthew Curley made an immense contribution with three excellent tries for Creggs, while Tommie Devine also crossed for a well taken try in the last minute.

Matthew Ryan impressed with his place-kicking, while Brian Cleary and Ronan Cahill gave Creggs extra momentum when introduced at half-time.

Longford had a number of powerful forwards on show and Creggs defended strongly to hold them out on numerous occasions.

The Creggs Development team travel to face OLBC in the Sportsground in Galway on Sunday, in what promises to be another big test for this rapidly improving squad of players.
