Girls Connacht Under-14 League

Ballina RFC 22, Creggs RFC 36.

Creggs Under-14 Girls travelled to play Ballina RFC in the Connacht Under-14 Girls League last Saturday in Ballina. It was a credit to both sides who made this a very entertaining game in cold conditions that included a couple of hail showers during the game.
Ballina got off to flying start and scored two tries in the first 7 minutes and held a 12-0 lead before the Creggs girls started to get into their rhythm.
Creggs then started to carry the ball well through Roisin Maher, Julie Ann Fahy, Jemima Verling, Fiona Duffy and Jean O Boyle and out the backs Aoibhinn Murray, Beibhinn Maher, and Emma Mannion were doing well.
Rachel McDonald got in for the first two Creggs tries and Gabrielle Kilcommons got the third try, which Eabha Dowd converted for a 17 – 12 half-time lead for Creggs.
Ballina got the score back to 17-17 early in the second half, but Creggs got ahead again from a try from Sarah Purcell, which Gabrialle Kilcommons converted.
After good work from Mikayla Gilhooly, Shauna Walsh and Aideen Walsh and after a good run from Caoimhe Walsh and Anna Kelly, Sarah Purcell got in for her second try before Jennifer Morris got in for a very good try, which Eabha Dowd converted to take a 36-17 lead.
Ballina continued to run the ball and some great defending from Megan Donoghue, Chloe Taylor, and Nadine Fitzmaurice in particular kept them at bay. However, Ballina broke in the last play while the hailstones continued to fall to score in the corner to leave the final score 36 – 22 in Creggs favour.
