Great away League win for Creggs Development Team

71

Connacht Junior 1C League

OlBC 0, Creggs Development 27.

The Creggs Development team recorded a resounding bonus point victory over Galway city opponents OLBC (Our Lady’s Boys Club) at the Sportsground on Saturday evening.

A fine try by Michael Feeley in the final minute secured a bonus point win which keeps Creggs in touch with the leading contenders, Ballinasloe, Ballyhaunis and Tuam.

With back to back games scheduled against Ballinasloe in January, this result could prove to be of major significance for this rapidly improving Creggs squad.

Creggs got off to a good start and dominated the early exchanges before Michael Feeley crossed for a try in the 16th minute following a 5 metre scrum. Michael Holland added the conversion from close range, but OLBC hit back with some determined play which forced Creggs to defend doggedly until a fine clearance from fullback Ryan Horan relieved the pressure.

The score remained at 7-0 until half-time, but Creggs started the second half with an excellent penalty kick by Michael Holland to edge 10-0 ahead before centre Enda Naughton scored a sensational try with an 80 metre run which spreadeagled the Boys Club defence. Michael Holland landed the difficult conversion to put Creggs ahead by 17-0.

Eoghan Farrell added a third try in the 68th minute with a barnstorming run which took him past several defenders. With time running out, the impressive No.8 Michael Feeley was on hand to collect a scoring pass from Enda Naughton, who had once again bamboozled his opponents with a searing run to set up the vital fourth Creggs try.

To their credit, OLBC continued to battle gamely right to the end, and contributed to the contest with a lot of wholehearted endeavour which was not adequately reflected on the scoreboard.

After the fourth Connacht League win in-a-row, the Creggs Development now take a break from competitive action until the League resumes with a difficult fixture, away to current leaders Ballinasloe on January 5th.
