Creggs began the game very well and took the lead after 7 minutes when great work up front by Tomas Tiernan, Aidan Hoare and Ben Johnson, got Creggs near the line and when Lee kilcoyne was held up short Creggs backs moved the ball for Aodhan Looby to go in under the posts which Comac Dolan converted for a 7-0 lead. Another try followed from Edimar Fimho after 15 minutes and Creggs looked to be well in command in the first half.

Ballinasloe started the second half the better and scored after only 4 minutes and it looked like game-on at that stage at 12-5 but Creggs regrouped and some brilliant running from Oisin O’Beirne and Ryan Conlon had the home defence scrambling on occasion. Up front Ciaran Purcell and Daniel Flynn were outstanding in both attack and defence and after phase after phase of attack Creggs eventually increased their lead with Jack Fleming going in for a try.

Shane Walsh and Cormac Feeley did well on their introduction and Ballinasloe did manage to get in for a try with the last play of the game to reduce the deficit to 17-10 but in truth Creggs had defended gallantly for the period leading up to that and the game was secure by the time the home team scored.

Creggs Under-14’s have two games left and are joint top of the U14A league with their next game at home to Westport RFC early in the New Year. Their last League match could be another top of the table clash, also in January, at home to Galwegians. The top two teams then play the Connacht League Final in February at a neutral venue.
