Creggs Under-17’s

Not having played in six weeks, the Creggs lads were always likely to be rusty and so it proved as a few times in the first half wrong decisions cost the team scores. However, the lads still managed six tries on the day through Ben Finnerty, Sean Trundle, Aaron Lyons and Jack Deegan with conversions from Mark Purcell.

Heroic performace falls short of victory for Under-15’s

Connacht Under-15 CUP Semi Final

Corinthians RFC 14, Creggs RFC 0.

Creggs Under-15’s lost out in the Semi-Final of the Connacht Under-15 Cup away to a very strong Corinthians side on Saturday afternoon last.

Creggs Under-15’s team that defeated Ballina in the Quarter-Final of the Cup.

It was real heroic performance against a physically bigger side that are favourites for the Cup. It was certainly a case of a scoreline that doesn’t tell the whole story of this game.

In the first half of the game a huge performance in defence from all the lads with Lee kilcoyne, Eoin Kelly, Daniel Flynn, Ciaran Purcell and Tomas Tiernan very prominent in the pack in the early stages and out wide Cormac Dolan, DJ Hession, Tadg Lyons and Aodhan Looby were very efficient when Creggs were in attack and put in some excellent kicks also for territory.

Neither team could breach the opposition in the first half and the score at half time was 0-0.

The second half was still all to play for and the first scorers of this game were always going to be hard caught and so it proved when Corinthians managed to evade a tackle out wide to go in for a try which was converted, for a 7-0 lead after 12 minutes of the second-half.

Creggs went on the attack after that and were turned over just near the opposition line after great work from Ben Johnson, Edimar Fimho and Noah Fallon in the pack and Senan Lambe and Jack Fleming in the backs.

As Creggs tried to push for the score, it was always likely they would leave gaps and so it proved when Corinthians again found space out wide and went in for the second score.

Aindriu Oates , Patrick Keane and Miguel Arthur did well on their introduction as other players tired, in what was a very competitive game.

Creggs Rugby: Lee Kilcoyne, Eoin Kelly, Daniel Flynn, Ciaran Purcell, Tomas Tiernan, Cormac Dolan, DJ Hession, Tadg Lyons, Aodhan Looby, Ben Johnson, Edimar Fimho, Noah Fallon, Senan Lambe, Jack Fleming, Josh Adams Verling, Aindriu Oates, Patrick Keane, Miguel Arthur, Cormac Feely, Shane Maloney, Eoghan Gilleran. (Missing from squad on the day were Michael McAteer and Oisin O’Beirne)
