Creggs big opening day a huge success

Creggs Firsts will play the second leg of their back to back League games on this Saturday night in Dubarry Park, kick-off 7 pm.
Creggs lost out in this fixture towards the end of last season, so there will be no taking this game lightly, with the focus very much on a win.

The win leaves Creggs in second place, 5 points behind Connemara. Creggs travel to Clifden on the weekend after next to play Connemara RFC in a key match.

Creggs Development continue their winning run

Creggs Development 17, Claremorris RFC 7.

Creggs Development team and Claremorris played a friendly fixture on Friday night in Creggs.

The game served up some lively passages of play interspersed with other quite forgettable periods on Creggs 4G pitch. Both teams struggled with their handling in the first half, with the number of scrums in double figures as a result of knock-ons many of which were unforced and prevented any flow in the contest.

A blank scoreboard at half-time was a fair reflection on proceeedings, but thankfully the standard picked up considerably thereafter. Impressive Creggs centre Enda Naughton broke the deadlock with a fine try in the 48th minute, and scrumhalf James McNally added a second try shortly afterwards when he finished off a slick handling move.

Claremorris responded with some excellent attacking play which required strong defence to keep the Creggs line intact before Colin Canny crossed for a well taken try, converted by Enda Naughton, to put the home team 17-0 ahead entering the final quarter.

Claremorris dominated the closing stages and scored a converted try which was fully merited following some sustained pressure which kept Creggs pinned deep in defence.

This was a useful exercise for the teams, both of which were understrength, and it provided valuable game time to some of the less experienced players in their squads.
