Creggs Under-15’s advance to Connacht Cup Semi-Final
Connacht Under-15 Boys Cup Quarter-Final.
Creggs RFC 39, Ballina RFC 27.
Creggs Under-15’s have qualified for the semi final of the Connacht Under-15 Cup after a very impressive victory over Ballina RFC on last Saturday afternoon in Creggs.
Playing against a considerable wind in the first half, Creggs came flying out of the blocks with super carrying up front from Noah Fallon, Lee Kilcoyne, Michael McAteer and Tomas Tiernan gave Creggs great front foot ball and Cormac Dolan moved the ball wide early and Creggs got in for two tries out wide through Edimar Fimho and Oisin O beirne for a 10 – 0 lead.
Ballina then got themselves into the game, following a few Creggs mistakes from knock ons and forward passes and they got in for 3 unanswered tries to lead 15-10 before Creggs outhalf DJ Hession got in for a crucial score to leave the score 15-15 at half time and Creggs would have been happy with that, playing against the strong breeze in the first half.
In the second half, Creggs stepped up the intensity upfront with Daniel Flynn and Aindriu Oates excellent on their introduction and outhalf DJ Hession was dictating things out the backs with some intelligent kicks and breaks , while outside him Centres Aodhan Looby and Jack Fleming were excellent in attack. Creggs got the next try through Ben Johnson which Looby converted for a 22-15 lead before Ciaran Purcell got in for a try which Looby again converted for a 29-15 lead. Ballina got in for another unconverted try to reduce the Creggs lead to 29-20 before Looby added an excellent long range penalty for a 32-20 lead.
Creggs continued to attack and push Ballina back and Cormac Feeley, Tadg Lyons and Miguel Arthur did well to carry and Eoin Kelly went in for a try which again Looby converted for a 39-20 lead with time running out. Ballina did get in for a late try and converted it to reduce the deficit to 39-27 but they could not deny Creggs victory and Creggs will play Corinthians RFC away in the Cup semi final in 3 weeks.

Creggs Under-14’s have big win away in Connacht Cup
Connacht Under-14 Plate
Corrib RFC 11, Creggs RFC 20.
Creggs played Corrib away in the first round of the Connacht Plate on Wednesday night last in Headford. This was a very severe test for the Creggs outfit as they were up against a very physical Corrib outfit.
The home team went into a 5 – 0 lead early in the game but Creggs came back with a try to equalize just before half time. Corrib took the lead again with a penalty early in the second half but Creggs replied with another try.
This was a very hard fought game and Creggs scored two more tries to one further penalty from Corrib, leaving a well-deserved final score of Creggs 20, Corrib 11.
This was a fantastic team effort from Creggs having been behind on three separate occasions they never panicked and were deserving winners. The try scorers were Thomas King, Daniel Browne, Shane Maloney, and jack Donnelly
Creggs now go forward to meet Buccaneers in the Connacht Quarter Final in two weeks time.
Creggs Under-13’s bow out of the Under-13 Cup
