After a defeat to Buccaneers RFC last Saturday night in Athlone, Creggs will play their last Connacht League game of the season away to Sligo RFC on Sunday next at 2.30.
With Connemara RFC declared League champions and Creggs clear runners-up, there isn’t anything at stake this Sunday, the ninth weekend in-a-row of competitive action. This game may provide the opportunity to rest some and rotate other players with a view to the Junior Cup Final on March 24th.
Galwegians RFC are already relegated and Sligo are fighting it out with three other teams next weekend, as mathematically they try to avoid a relegation play-off.

Development Team play Ballyhaunis Saturday night

Creggs Development team will play Ballyhaunis RFC on this Saturday evening away at 7.30pm in their second-last League game of the season. A couple of weeks later, Creggs Development play Ballina RFC at home.

Training continues on Tuesdays (8pm) and Friday’s (8.15pm) for the remaining three weeks. A big turnout and maximum effort is requested to finish the season on a high note.

New and returning players are always welcome to come along to training on the new 4G pitch in Creggs.

Impressive Creggs away win in Under-15 Cup

Connacht Under-15 Cup

NUIG RFC 8, Creggs RFC 55.

The Creggs Under-15 boys had a big win in the first round of the Connacht Under-15 Cup against NUIG in Dangan (Galway) last Saturday.

Creggs were always in control in this game and scores came from Aodhan Looby, DJ Hession, Tomas Tiernan, Eoin Kelly, Senan lambe, Edimar Fimha, Lee Kilcoyne, and Miguel Arthur.

Creggs have now qualified for the Cup Quarter-Final where they will face very stiff opposition from Ballina RFC, who they beat 32-31 earlier this season in their league encounter. That game is down to be played in Creggs on Saturday week (March 9) at 2.30pm.

Under-14 Girls play Connacht Cup Final on Sunday

Connacht Under-14 Girls Cup Final, Sunday, the Sportsground at 12 Noon.

Creggs RFC v Connemara RFC

Creggs Under-14 girls will take on Connemara RFC in the Connacht Under-14 Girl’s Cup Final next Sunday at 12 Noon in the Sportsground, in Galway.

This is the girls first year playing rugby and to have made the final is a huge achievement. We wish our girls the best of luck. Please support this team on their big day.

Our Girls Under-16s will play Corrinthians RFC in the Connacht Under-16 Plate Semi Final. The date for this game to be confirmed.

Creggs Under-13’s Cup win puts them in Quarter-Final

Connacht Under-13 Boys Cup

Creggs RFC 17, Dunmore RFC 10.

The Creggs Under-13 team overcame Dunmore RFC in a very competitive first round of the Connacht Cup in the Green in Creggs on Tuesday evening.

Creggs stormed into an early lead with an excellent breakaway try from John McGuinness which he converted himself. Creggs then kept the game tight throughout the first half, with the forward line in particular playing very well with Leo O’Connor, Sean Allen, Josh Reddington and Jarlath Quinn all shining during this period.

Dunmore pulled back a try after 20 minutes leaving the score line a very tight 7-5 at half time. Indeed, Creggs would have seen themselves trailing at half time, only for an unbelievable try saving tackle from Josh McCormack in the corner.

A John McGuinness penalty pulled Creggs five clear at the start of the second half in what was a very good period for Dunmore. The Creggs defence stood firm, with centres Aaron McAteer, Lochlann Mulry and Eoghan Keavney all playing very well.

A breakaway run from Creggs scrumhalf Jamie Betts saw him covering half the park and allowed the supporting Eoin Keaveney to score under the posts. McGuinness converted to leave the score 17-5.

Dunmore upped their performance at this stage and began to camp in the Creggs half of the field. A Dunmore try brought the score back to 17-10 and Creggs did well to hold Dunmore out for the remainder of the second half.

Creggs now go on to play Buccaneers away in the Quarter Final on Saturday 9th March at 1.30pm..

Creggs Rugby: Oisin Mullen, Jarlath Quinn, Shayne Ward, Leo O’Connor, Josh Reddington, Roan Trundle, Josh McCormack, Sean Allen, Jamie Betts, John McGuinness, Aaron McAteer, Cian Escosio, Lochlann Mulry, Cathal Maloney Luke Dolan, Ruarai Kenny, Eoghan Keavney, and Harry O’Sullivan.
