Creggs RFC 12 – Galwegians RFC 0
Creggs U13’s produced a big performance in their Cup game last Sunday morning, overcoming a strong Galwegians outfit on a scoreline of 12-0.
Creggs playing with the wind, started the game stronger and had the better of the early territory with good carries up front from Tomas Tiernan, Lee Kilcoyne and Aindriu Oates early on and some good kicking from DJ Hession, the home side were forcing Galwegians to retreat and try to play out of their own 22″. In The early exchanges, Galwegians were defending well in the tackle area and turning over ball at ruck time and it took the young Creggs lads a while to come to terms with the ruck area.
Creggs took the lead after 20 minutes, when Galwegians tried to run the ball out of their own 22″ but good defence around the fringes from Edimar Fimho, Ciaran Purcell, Michael McAteer and Daniel Flynn and then in the backs from Cormac Dolan and Daniel Crehan , forced Galwegians over their own line for a Creggs 5 Metre scrum, the ball was picked by Purcell who gave to Cormac Dolan and Aodhan Looby who touched down near the corner.
The second half Creggs continued to defend very well and Galwegians were finding it hard to find holes in the homes team defence and it wasn’t until the final play that Creggs were assured of the victory when Creggs launched an attack from a scrum on half way, Looby fed Jack Fleming who made a fine run and fed Tadhg Lyons who whowed his pace to beat the defence to score near the posts which Cormac Dolan converted.
