Under-14’s lose out to very strong Corinthians team

Connacht Under-14 A League Final:

Corinthians RFC  32 ,      Creggs RFC  10 .

Creggs U14’s played Corinthians RFC in the U14 league final last Saturday in Corrib RFC grounds in Headford but found the Galway outfit too strong for them on the day. Corinthians couldn’t believe their luck when they scored almost directly from the kick off and after that the Creggs boys were always chasing the game. In the first half Daniel Flynn, Tomas Tiernan, Ciaran Purcell and Lee Kilcoyne were excellent in the forwards in attack and defence against a bigger pack and out wide Ryan Conlon, Oisin O Beirne and Aodhan Looby were trying to run the ball at every opportunity. Creggs only first half score game from a try from Ben Johnson after good word from Edimar Fimho, DJ hession and Michael mcAteer but they found themselves 22-5 down at half time.

Creggs began the second half well and scored through Ben Johnson again to leave the score 22-10 but two very late tries for Corinthians put a seal on the result and they were deserved winners on the day. Creggs subs Daniel O Shaughnessy, Patrick keane , Sean Curley and Andy Quinn did well on their introduction. Creggs may well meet the same opposition in the quarter final of the cup and will hope for better fortunes on the day.

Training for Under-14’s is on every Tuesday at 7pm in the Astro Turf in Roscommon. New players aways welcome.

Separately, Creggs will play Oughterard RFC on February 17th. in the Round One of the Connacht Under-14 Cup.

All 3 teams in action this weekend.
First up was U18s who played A training game Friday with Corrib. A very worthwhile exercise and many thanks to our hosts for making it such an enjoyable evening.
Saturday evening brought Creggs Rfc to Tuam where firstly u14s locked horns. Trys from Ailbhe Gannon,Juno Hayes,Doireann Clancy and Ceoladh Lydon were the topping on a fine team performance for this continually improving group. Strong performances too from Kyri Ruane,Louise Seoige,Sarah Smith and Heidi Watson.
Next up was the U16s. This was a cracker of a game where despite the best efforts of captain Hannah Clarke to drag her side into the game Creggs proved too strong on the day. Experienced players Beibhinn Gleeson,Keanah Irons and Charlotte O Grady continually offered themselves in both attack and defence but the powerful relentless ball carrying Creggs girls were deserving victors.

A great evenings Rugby tonight when Creggs Girls U14 and U16 travelled to play Tuam/Oughterard in Tuam in their first games of the season.

The U14's who had a lot of players playing their first ever game went down to a strong Tuam/Oughterard team but put in a great performance and then the U16"s Girls came out on top in a tough encounter against the same opposition.

Thanks to all that were available to travel tonight.
