Big win for Creggs Under-18s in the Connacht Cup
Connacht Under-18.5 Cup
Creggs RFC 31, Dunmore RFC/ Tuam RFC Combination 5.
Creggs RFC Under-18.5s played their first round in the Connacht Cup against Dunmore Rugby Club / Tuam Rugby Club combination.
The weather last Sunday didn’t help the 4:45pm wasn’t conducive to good rugby but the Creggs men put in a great performance scoring five tries against one.
With no game since before christmas you would have expected a bit of rustyness from the Creggs Lads but they started the game with great pace and ran in 3 unanswered tries in the first half through Darren Gately, Senan Lambe and Lee Kilcoyne all of which were converted by Darren Gately.
The second half proved a more difficult encounter with the game very stop start and a lot of penalties awarded breaking up the flow of the game, however both teams did get in for a try in the second half with Ben Johnson getting in from close range for the Creggs lads. The biggest cheer of the day was saved for
The last play of the game when Mark Kilcommons got held up after a long weaving run and from the goal line drop off, Lee Kilcoyne gathered the ball 30 metres out to drop a goal to complete the scoring.
Creggs finished winners on 31-5. Well done to all the players, coaches and all concerned.
It was a great team effort. Creggs had 20 players togged and a few injured players present too with the squad. The coaches are hopeful that some absent players will return to give the cup campaign a real good go.
A highlight of the game was a well practised drop goal from none other than Lee Kilcoyne who although playing at number 8, he confidently took on a huge kick from 40 metres out into the wind, splitting the posts.

Creggs Under-16 Girls progress in the Connacht Cup
Castlebar RFC were the visitors to Creggs last Sunday morning in the Connacht Under-16 Girls Cup with the home side coming out on top over the Mayo girls.
The Creggs girls who have been playing for a few years ran in numerous tries against their less experienced opposition who did manage to run in for 1 try of their own towards the end of the game.
Well done to both teams and the best of luck to the Creggs girls in the next round of the Connacht Cup.
A much tougher encounter against Ballinasloe RFC in the quarter final of the cup in a couple of weeks time is guaranteed and this was a chance for the Creggs girls to get a run out prior to that game and hand a debut to Ciara Corrigan who acquitted herself very well on her first day out with the team.
